No summer would be complete without a visit to the fair and, since summer festival season is in full swing, we’re stepping up to help you seize the moment. Whether it’s the country’s largest state fair, a green bean-themed soiree, or a celebration of pirates, this list has something for everyone. Mark your calendars!


North Alabama State Fair – Muscle Schoals, AL (9/22-9/27)
From lawn mower races to a Little Red Wagon contest and parade, the North Alabama State Fair knows how to get around in style.

Sweet Tater Festival – Cullman, AL (9/5-9/7)
Take a trip to Cullman to taste a tater or two. All the sweet potatoes for this Labor Day event were kindly donated by the Cullman County Sweet Potato Growers. How sweet!


Fulton County Fair – Salem, AR (7/27-8/1)
We have a feeling Fulton County may be home to Arkansas’ best apple pie. Hop on over to Salem to find out for yourself during the fair’s Beta Sigma Phi Apple Pie Baking Contest.

Johnson County Fair – Clarksville, AR (8/18-8/23)
Everyone can be a winner in Clarksville. If you don’t have a prized steer to bring to the fair with you, consider entering a family story or portrait in the Johnson County Fair’s Family History Contest.


Vero Beach Pirate Fest – Vero Beach, FL (7/31-8/2)
This Florida festival turns your swashbuckling dreams into reality. We bet you thought you’d never be able to hunt treasure with pirates, huh? Think again!


Green Bean Festival – Blairsville, GA (7/25)
Getting your daily dose of greens has never been so fun. Try a green bean hat or bonnet on for size while you’re strolling through this country fair.


Delcambre Shrimp Festival – Delcambre, LA (8/12-8/16)
Boiled shrimp, fried shrimp, shrimp salad, and the blessing of a shrimp boat fleet—the Delcambre Shrimp Festival is one of Louisiana’s largest celebrations of all things shrimp.


Choctaw Indian Fair – Choctaw, MS (7/8-7/11)
This celebration of Choctaw heritage and culture features food, crafts, music, and World Series Stickball. The championship game tops off the fair when adoring fans fill the Choctaw Central High School football stadium to cheer on their team.


Festival of Nations – St. Louis, MO (8/29-8/30)
With more than 40 ethnic food booths and an international bazaar, you’ll feel like you’ve taken a trip around the globe when you leave this multicultural celebration.

Missouri State Fair – Sedalia, MO (8/13-8/23)
This picturesque state fair is steeped in tradition and boasts big name performers. Catch Def Leppard, Styx, Gary Allan, Alabama, The Fray, and more at this year’s main stage.

North Carolina

Riverfest – Asheville, NC (8/8)
Put your creativity and ingenuity to the test in the Anything that Floats Parade. Participants are tasked with creating vessels out of literally anything that floats and sending them down the French Broad River.

South Carolina

South Carolina Foothills Heritage Fair – Westminster, SC (9/29-10/4)
Watch the dirt and dust will fly at the draft horse pull or opt for a more tame setting at the 4-H Dog Obedience Show. This upstate fair features all kinds of four-legged critters.


Tennessee State Fair – Nashville, TN (9/11-9/20)
With all of the live entertainment at this fair in the heart of Music City, you’re likely to catch a glimpse of country music’s next big star.

West Tennessee State Fair – Jackson, TN (9/15-9/20)
Eagles, snakes, owls, and hawks will be on exhibit at the West Tennessee State Fair. But if there’s one event you won’t want to miss at this fair, it’s the alligator show!


Big Tex (State Fair of Texas) – Dallas, TX (9/25-10/18)
Everything really is bigger in Texas. Standing at 55 feet tall, Big Tex® welcomes visitors to the largest fair in the country.

Parker County Peach Festival – Weatherford, TX (7/11)
This festival packs a summer’s worth of fun and food into one day with a domino tournament, the Peach Pedal Bike Ride, live entertainment, and over 200 arts and crafts and food vendors.


Carytown Watermelon Festival – Richmond, VA (8/9)
The largest one-day festival in the state of Virginia, the Carytown Watermelon Festival features over 3,000 watermelons, more than 100 exhibitors, and 60 musicians to take the stage for a day you won’t soon forget.
