Bizzare Thanksgiving turkey dinners with a hot cheeto turkey, turkey cake and sushi

What comes to mind when you think of Thanksgiving? Maybe it’s a cornucopia centerpiece and colorful pumpkins and gourds adorning your home; heaping plates of mouth-watering turkey, mashed potatoes with gravy, and stuffing for dinner; or getting together with family and friends, watching football, and playing games together.

Thanksgiving can mean many things, but it’s mostly about giving thanks (after all, it is called Thanks-giving). However, the bizarre turkey dinners below may make you think, “No, thanks!”

These turkey dinners may be a bit bizarre, but your car insurance doesn’t have to be. 1. Chip Flavor Blasted Turkey

If you’re a fan of hot puffed cheese sticks, like Flamin’ Hot Cheetos, ranch-flavored corn chips, like Doritos, or crunchy onion rings (and who isn’t?), then Reynolds Kitchens’ recipes for “Flavor Blasted Turkeys” may be the perfect weird Thanksgiving dinner for you! Coat the turkey with the crushed chips and roast in the oven for a new way to enjoy your favorite snack.

2. Roasted Alien Facehugger Chicken

Alien facehugger chasing a Thanksgiving turkey

The movie “Alien” debuted in 1979, introducing viewers to the facehugger, a science-fiction creature that attaches itself to a host’s face in an attempt to implant them with an alien parasite (yeah, creepy). Today, food blogger Hellen Die, who has 15 years in Hollywood’s horror film biz, has her own version of the facehugger — in the form of this sci-fi roasted chicken! OK, so it’s not technically a turkey, but this one could easily win an Academy Award for the most bizarre of all poultry dinners.

3. Turkey Cake

Do you like savory pies like shepherd’s pie and chicken pot pie? Well, what about a turkey cake? This turkey meatloaf-style cake recipe from Chowhound is made with layers of turkey, sweet potatoes, marshmallows, cranberry sauce, and a heaping spoon of bizarre.

4. Turkey Sushi Roll

We love a good turkey leftover recipe (see: Thanksgiving Turkey Leftover Recipes You’ll Love to Gobble Up [INFOGRAPHIC]), but a turkey sushi roll? Bonsai Bistro’s Thanksgiving leftover-inspired maki roll is filled with smoked turkey breast, stuffing, dried cranberries, green beans, and cream cheese. It is tempura battered and fried, and served with cranberry wasabi and a red wine soy demi-glace. OK, this one actually sounds pretty tasty. What do you think?

5. Jell-O Mold Turkey

These bizarre turkey dinners aren’t made with actual birds, but rather Jell-O molds! A turkey burger turkey, matzoh ball soup turkey, and a Hostess cupcake turkey are just a few of the inspired takes made for this turkey-shaped Jell-O mold competition. Some of these entries may be a little too realistic (and bizarre!) looking for most people’s tastes. Your dinner guests might prefer a bowl of cranberry gelatin salad instead.

6. Turducken

Picture of a turducken with a duck and chicken stuffed in a turkey

For the uninitiated: a turducken is a deboned chicken stuffed in a deboned duck stuffed in a deboned turkey, with dressing (or stuffing, depending on where you’re from) separating each layer. The turducken was created in 1984 at Hebert’s Specialty Meats in Maurice, Louisiana. A customer with a turkey, duck, and chicken asked if the butcher shop could debone and combine the birds. It seemed a little out there at the time, but 30+ years later, Hebert’s sells as many as 3,500 turduckens during the holiday season! Cajun Grocer has a great turducken recipe you can recreate at home.
